Bring some cash and join Black Women of Evanston and the Sassy Thrifters this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fleetwood-Jourdain Center for its Fleek Market.
This Sunday, October 17, all Evanston residents are invited to the Sassy Thrifters Black Vendor Market at Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster Street.
The event, organized by Sassy Thrifters, will be hosted by Black Women of Evanston (BWoE), a Facebook group of 350 members that was founded by Annette Jean-Jacques four years ago to provide a safe space for Black women and to focus on social service and community service activities.
Sassy Thrifters, which was founded by Tameka Thompson, is a Chicago-based organization that "promotes a frugal yet quality lifestyle that transcends fashion & home décor, but overall wellness," according to its web site. "Supporting Sassy Thrifters will allow you to support a community who seeks to educate, recycle, empower, network, and be a blessing to others," says Thompson.
Annette Jean-Jacques says she attended a Sassy Thrifters' Fleek Market on the south side of Chicago several months ago and loved the idea.
"I appreciated the concept of turning individuals into vendors," she says, "and as the founder and administrator of the BWoE group, I thought it would be a good idea to bring this market to Evanston to allow local Evanstonians to sell."
Vendors will include En Ink, owned by Andrea DeBerry, which will sell art on canvas, tile, ready to hang art, and luxury jewelry.
Fuschia Winston-Rodriguez, Anti-Racist AF, will sell t-shirts and accessories.
Chloe Kidpreneur will sell candles and fragrances.
A number of vendors will sell personal items.
Sassy Thrifters began as a social media group offering “Thrifting in Chicago” and Estate Sale bus tours and has evolved into organizing community events such as Vendor Markets, free make-overs for moms, health and wellness events, book clubs, travel, quarterly DIY workshops, and more.
The Sassy Thrifters focus on purchasing and selling pre-owned items.
All slots for vendors for the Evanston market have been filled, but everyone is encouraged to support the event and bring some cash to purchase!
