Dear Evanston,

On this Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, I'm gratified to report that as of 10 a.m. this morning, our white and non-Black community has raised $8,077 out of the $10,000 goal I set on on Friday.

It's a responsibility of all white and non-Black residents to support Evanston's reparations in funding and with action--and not just through this particular drive, but consistently and into the future.

To contribute to the fund, held by the Evanston Community Foundation and overseen by the Evanston Reparations Authority:

-- Make your contribution.

-- In the "notes" section, mention NK's fundraiser.

You can also send your contribution by check to:

Evanston Community Foundation 1560 Sherman Avenue Suite 535 Evanston, IL 60201

On the Memo line, write: Nina Kavin fundraiser/ECRF

Finally: while your gift is going to a 501(c)3, please don't file for a tax deduction for this contribution, because reparations is not charity but our responsibility.

This is our responsibility (as is continuing to support Black organizations and Black businesses). I hope that you'll continue to support this fund.

Here's a powerful, short (11-minute) video recently released by VICE News about Evanston's reparations initiative.

Please watch it!
