Have you heard about the federal lawsuit filed against Evanston/Skokie School District 65 for their groundbreaking antiracism work?
Yes, it's true. The Southeastern Legal Foundation, a right-wing advocacy group out of Georgia--in cooperation with Chris Rufo, a right-wing commentator and activist, on behalf of Stacy Deemar, a white D65 drama teacher--are all using D65 as a step in a national attack on equity and antiracist education.
This is part of a national strategy to stop public schools from teaching a more full and accurate history of our country and training teachers to create more racially equitable classrooms.
If you're as concerned as we are, let's do something and be heard doing it!
1. Go to StrongerTogetherEvanston.com and sign the petition denouncing the lawsuit and supporting D65.
2. Join Evanston activists and Mayor Daniel Biss at a media event 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20 at James Park.
A belief in equity is not enough. To resist inequity and racism, we must act.
Do whatever you can to show up with your children, your friends, and your neighbors on July 20.
Let’s show everyone who's watching Evanston what kind of community we want it to be.
