On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a panel of young, gifted, Black Evanstonians will have a spirited, thoughtful conversation about the history and future of civil and human rights in Evanston and in America.
The four panelists, Katia Bell, Sarah Bogan, Alexis Harris-Dyer, and Kara Roseborough will be joined by host, ETHS alum, 2017 NAACP Community Service awardee, and Northwestern University senior Nolan Robinson Jr.
All of these dynamic young activists, The Evanston Five, are under twenty-six years old.
"They are examples of a larger community of stellar young Black Evanston activists who are demonstrating by example how our present and future are in the hands of courageous young people who are more than capable of articulating the moment they find us and themselves in," says FJT's artistic director Tim Rhoze.
They are speaking up and speaking out for change because..."Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" - Martin Luther King Jr.
Why the Evanston Five? They are just five of the many.
The next Five will always step up. And then the next Five. And the next Five. And the next... 2021 in Evanston?
